The City of Longview has been named a Certified Retirement Community by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The certification is part of a statewide program to attract retirees to Texas.
According to Mayor Jay Dean, “The City of Longview is proud to be named a Certified Retirement Community. With a strong local economy, excellent health care, low cost of living, and the beauty of East Texas, we believe Longview is a great place to live for people of all ages.”
Becoming a Certified Retirement Community was one of the goals established within the Longview Vision 2010 strategic planning process. To earn the certification, Longview created a seven-member Certified Retirement City Committee that represented experience from the health care, education, real estate, and financial fields. Staff assistance was provided by the City of Longview, Longview Partnership, and Longview Economic Development Corporation. The committee completed an application that included a community assessment, marketing plan and long-term plan.
