The City of Longview offers a homestead tax exemption and a property tax freeze for residents over 65 and/or disabled residents in accordance with options provided within Texas State Law. The tax freeze is also offered by Gregg County and Harrison County.
 
There is no state income tax in Texas. As such, the majority of the tax structure is based on sales tax and property tax, in addition to consumption taxes such as gasoline. Property tax is calculated by multiplying a property's value by the sum of the tax rates of the individual taxing entities applied to that particular property, such as the city, county, and school district.
